Screen Room Setup Wapakoneta, Ohio


To set up, change over, verify and/or adjust processes as needed in the screen rooms, including the screen machines, ovens, chillers and conveyors, to produce a product that meets all American Trims' quality standards and requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Set up each job initially, including rearranging and setting up all equipment including screening
  • Setting up the screen in the correct position, selecting the correct ink, putting the ink in
  • the screen, assembling the tools needed to apply the ink (squeegee & back coater), and making sure
  • everything is adjusted properly to the correct process listed on the process sheet. This includes each
  • color required for the job.
  • Run four to five test parts and visually check pieces to be sure there is an even coating of paint and
  • that there are no bubbles, fish-eyes or other imperfections.
  • When the process is considered ready, check a part according to the first piece approval procedure.
  • Keep paint containers filled and check viscosity frequently to ensure the paint maintains the proper
  • If adjustment is not possible, replace with new paint. Check for bubbles on the screens
  • and if found, replace the paint. If there are any further issues, contact the Ink Lab.
  • Review the schedule and work with the scheduling department to ensure that jobs are scheduled in the
  • most efficient manner within the constraints imposed by the customers.
  • Assist supervision in controlling product quality and ensuring that the process runs smoothly.
  • Troubleshoot as required and shut down the process if not producing good parts.
  • Start up and shut down ovens using correct procedures as well as adjusting ovens for process changes.
  • Set up and/or verify pre-bake oven belt speed and peak metal temperature as required.
  • Set up and/or verify basecoat and topcoat set up by checking coating viscosity, coating film thickness
  • and coater set up as required.
  • Check airlocks for cleanliness, change tacky mats as required and follow all clean room procedures.
  • Responsible for quality checks as specified in the work instructions.
  • Do the initial set up of roll coaters by placing enddams, troughs and blades in place. Check
  • temperature of coating, adjust coating to proper viscosity, set up coater to listed specification and
  • adjust coater to obtain correct film thickness.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
  • Ability to troubleshoot quality issues as well as mechanical issues, adjusting appropriately and when
  • necessary, notifying appropriate department to assist.
  • Open communication with supervisor, scheduler, washer operator, tape operator, maintenance,
  • process and ink lab technician.
  • Preparation for current shift, gathering appropriate supplies and assuring quantities needed are
  • available based on schedule.
  • Preparing for smooth transition from current shift to next shift, assuring a productive start by
  • maintaining supplies and keeping area clean.
  • Ability to do color readings and record.
  • Ability to operate equipment as well as troubleshoot this equipment.
  • Check viscosity of coatings.
  • Work with scheduling to make the room more efficient.
  • Work with supervisor in room on personnel issues and continuous training on equipment.
  • Consistent in job performance.
  • Must have completed two years as a Screen Room Setup B.
  • Back-up Tape Operator when necessary.
  • Other job duties as assigned by supervisor.

Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Problem Solving Training.

Screening Machines, Roll Coaters, Ovens, Conveyors and Processors.

Common mechanical tools, custom dimensional gages, squeegees and back coaters.

Screens, inks, lacquer thinner and cleaner, clear coating, etc.

Ability to do Statistical Process Control Charts (SPC) and Problem Solving. Ability to follow and prioritize schedules. Attention to detail is important.
